Bike Build - Dave's S-Works Stumpy HT Alloy

One of the problems with switching to a 29r is that I have a whole bunch of 26" specific parts that have accumulated over the last couple of years. Add to that a set of brakes, rear derailleur, pedals and handlebar that have been in the parts box for a while and we have a bike build. Specialized were able to hook me up with this sweet S-Works Stumpjumper HT alloy frame (17.5") for the build.

Liberty Bikes supports women's cycling

At Liberty Bikes we want to encourage everyone to take up cycling as a healthy lifestyle. With this in mind we have created a section of our store dedicated to women's cycling. Now as you can see, we are just getting statrted here but we already have stock of women's specific helmets, clothing, shoes, saddles and gloves. We also have stock of women's specific road bikes and recreational bikes in several sizes. As the spring/summer rolls on we will be expanding our range and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We are also proud to announce the hiring of our first female employee. Jaymin will be working with us a few days a week in between her studies. She's already got her heart set on the new Specialized Dolce Sport (pictured above) sitting on the showroom floor.

I needed a new 29r after selling the Epic Expert and these arrived at just the right time for springtime riding. Obviously as a bike shop guy I'm not going to ride it stock, so a few upgrades were the go.

Rocky Mountain Vertex 950's have arrived at Liberty Bikes

It's been a big build up but the 2012 Rocky Mountain Vertex 950 has finally arrived in Perth. It has an alloy frame, Rock Shox Reba fork and DT Swiss rims powered along with a SRAM X9 drivetrain all for $2499.00

The large size weighed in just over 11.5kg without pedals. I'll be riding one of these for the next few weeks leading up to the Dawn til Dust 12hr at the end of November.

2012 Rocky Mountain Vertex 950 and 930 almost here.

 We are getting our first delivery of 2012 Vertex 950 and 930 29ers in the next fortnight.

The Vertex 950 (pic above) is $2499.00, it comes with a SRAM X-9 drivetrain, DT Swiss tubeless ready wheelset and a Rock Shox Reba RL with lockout and QR15mm axle.

The Vertex 930 (pic below) is $1999.00 and comes with a Shimano SLX drivetrain, press-fit bottom bracket and Rock Shox Recon Gold fork with lockout.

On the 29th and 30th of October IMBA Australia will be in town for 2 Trail Maintenance Workshops at the Kalamunda Circuit. The workshops will run all day and include both theory and practical components. The workshops are FREE and include lunch. Specialized P.Fix in stock

At long last we have the eagerly awaited Specialized P.Fix in stock. At the moment we are limited to Small and Large frames with more on the way over the next few weeks. At only $899.00 they wont be sitting on the showroom floor for long.

Some days (OK most days) I love my job...

Some days are spent working on nothing but Big W heaps when you have a shop in Morley. But sometimes, every now and again, something really nice swings in.

 

 

Apart from needing a new chain, this bike runs like it was bought new yesterday. She's showing her age a little but nothing a few minutes on e-bay and a sand blast and fresh paint job wouldn't fix.

Dwellingup 100 training ride - Langford Park, Jarrahdale

2012 Shimano Roadshow

I just got back from a visit to Ascot Quays for the 2012 Shimano roadshow.

On show was the new Deore XT drivetrain in both Silver & Black and 3x10 & 2x10. Have got to say that it looks pretty sweet, can't wait to ride it on some 2012 offerings.

Also the highly anticipated Ultegra Di2 drivetrain was there for us to play with. It must be said Di2 is great but at the ultegra pricepoint, a little bulky.

It will be interesting to see how much it costs on a fully spec'd bike from some of the various suppliers who will use it. Stay tuned for news on Specialized Tarmacs and Roubaixs with "Ui2".

2012 Specialized Bikes

A few of the first 2012 Specialized bikes have started to sneak into the country and so far things are looking pretty good.

The new Carve range of 29'rs are looking like the pick of the bunch right now. They fill a gap between the Rockhopper 29'rs and and the Stumpjumper Hardtail 29'r ranging in price from $1499 - $1999. With a light M4SL Alloy frame and Rockshox 80mm suspension forks these bikes are prerfect for serious mountainbikers wanting to dip their toes into the 29'r craze or the beginner racer who wants a value package without forking out for the Stumpjumper HT.

Rockies loaded up...

Last weekend we loaded up the Liberty Bikes Jeep with 5 Rocky Mountains and headed out to the Kalamunda 50/50 to show them off. We had a lot of interest from a lot of very tired riders after the event, sounds like it was a pretty tough course. Congratulations to all those who finished! Also thanks to Adventure Brands for the tent and flag, Yakima for the bike carriers and Singletrack Minds for letting us set up our toys in the race village.
